so while the news that Chavez has been given sweeping powers in venezuela to rule by decree for the next 18 months may be seen as a good thing for some [click here] it leaves me feeling a little nervous.
true, the country's assembly voted overwhelmingly in favour of the move but i can't help but feel that this is a sleigh ride into something bad. don't get me wrong i like chavez and i'm in favour of anything that promotes social justice and equitable distribution of resources and wealth but i also believe that having that much power rest on one person is never a good thing.
