i'm gonna be a part of it... New York, New York!
just firmed up my plans for a new york trip today, i can't wait!
anything i must do whilst i'm there?
just firmed up my plans for a new york trip today, i can't wait!
anything i must do whilst i'm there?
i'm off to nyc today, it's been an up and down month so i've been looking forward to this trip for a few weeks now.
i'll be coming home to piles and piles of work that i've been procrastinating but i think more than anything right now i need a new york minute to clear my head and get ready for a really stressful few weeks.
absofuckinglutely.
have i mentioned how much i love new york?
being there, taking the subway, walking around chelsea, the east village, downtown, uptown, brooklyn it was all just amazing and awe-inspiring... yes, even brooklyn.
i used to say that while i loved visiting new york i could never live there, now i'm not so sure the idea of living in new york is really appealing.
for anyone who is heading to nyc and wants to check out some amazing (and affordable) theater, head over to the east village kraine theater and check out the new york neo-futurists production "too much light makes the baby go blind". 30 plays in 60 minutes, if they sell out they order pizza for the audience, well worth heading over.
summer semester is proving to be a whole lot more work than i anticipated, throw on top of that my sister's wedding, starting to think about PhD applications and funding proposals i feel like things just aren't slowing down at a time when i want to go outside and play in the sunshine.
heading to Saskatoon next week for a conference, that will probably be the extent of my travels this summer although i think i might try to go to vancouver for a few days in august (fingers crossed).
not much to report really... what a sexy single life eh?
woke up this morning at the crack of bloody dawn (oh wait, before that, at 4:30am) and headed to the airport at 5 to catch my 8am flight out to Saskatoon. I could have probably cut it a little closer but I'm paranoid that I'll get held up at security so I always try to get to the airport at least two hours prior.
A nice surprise- I got a seat in business class and my inner capitalist came out when someone from coach tried to use our bathroom. get to the fucking back of the plane dammit. (I'm kidding... maybe).
Saskatoon is... interesting. Although I haven't really done any exploring, more on the city itself later. I did notice that most of the houses look like post WWII prefabricated houses
I didn't really do much today since I had to finish off an assignment and took an afternoon nap in the process. Got really excited when my friends started to show up, I'm actually really excited about the conference and the trip in general. It's nice to get away for a few days and be immersed in the nerd equivalent of summer camp.
once the rain stopped and the sunshine came out saskatoon turned out to be an alright place.
the conference has been amazing, lots of really good discussions and ideas floating around. these sorts of events really are nerd camp. i love it!
saw a lot of the faculty from my undergrad, went for dinners, had amazing chats. this week was much needed!
congress flew by, it was an amazing conference and i was genuinely happy to see so much amazing work coming out of my program. it made me feel like maybe, just maybe, i could see myself staying at york to do my PhD.
more than anything is was great to see the faculty from laurier again, i spent oodles of time hanging out with the junior faculty. most of them helped me along the way to grad school and gave me some really good advice. it was amazing to see penelope again and really have time to chat and hang out since i hadn't really had the opportunity to do that since convocation last year.
by the time i got back to toronto i was facing a full blown cold that is currently percolating its way through my body. there is nothing worse than a summertime cold let me tell you!
splurged on a few necessary office products through staples.ca today: a filing cabinet, a paper shredder... it all feels way too grown up!
after a few weeks of tumultuous self-loathing and just not feeling *okay* i'm off to the rainy land of mountains, oceans and soy lattes. sometimes a little getaway is just what the doctor ordered. when i get back i need to start full tilt boogie on my thesis and a few other projects i have on the go.
i'm SO pumped for the trip, i haven't seen tina since she moved back home so i'm definitely looking forward to a few days of hanging out with my person. it sounds like she already has a few fun filled days planned for us, i'm definitely looking forward to the trip!
